Monday 11th February 2013 – Asteroids, Dark Spaces and Only 60 seconds, Flight
Monday 11th February 2013 – Meeting Report, It is Dark, It is Cold, Squeezed into a Dim Room projected we watch as the Asteroid, Death half the size of a football pitch, hurtles Earth Bound, – well almost, missing by 17,400 km a whisker in the scale of the solar system. Anxious, Leo clasps his hands, produces a shadowy image of a Rabbit, then a dog others join in and a menagerie of animals blend into a Fish (Pisces), Pegasus (Winged Horse), The Great Bear, a little Bear ploughs the skies. Out of the room, out into the Dark, well not so dark actually not really dark enough, Kyle finds a black quadrangle, Ethan triggers the Security Light PIR, we stand still long enough (honest) for the light to go, Louis sets up his telescope and low and behold, Jupiter – King of the Gods, God of The Sky God of Thunder (Its all Greek to me too!). Polaris (The North Star) shines bright but clouding our view, whispy, dark bundles we know are white in the light, but not now not tonight.
We return, Simon says or not, and then for 60 seconds, each cubs tries to make sense of it all, a word, a phrase, conjured, worked and developed. No errs, no umms, no repetition. It is all there, in Josh’s underwear, Pineapples, Bra’s, Germs, Antidisestablishmentarianism, Flobby Bobby, Alistair’s Dad…
Planes – Hurricanes, Spitfires, Lancaster Bomber’s. Blackbird, Concord, Easyjet!
